Below
you'll read some Old and New Historical events
about our part of the World.
Both
Asprovalta
and Stavros
are very near to each other and very close to what
is believe to be the remainings of the original
Palace to the Dynasty of Alexander the Great,
although in the last 10 years some archeologists
discovered his father's Philip(Philippos) burial
grounds with military uniforms and other
parafenelia some 100 kilometers South of here.
Asprovalta
and Stavros:
At
the end of World War One and around the year of
1922 under a politically motivated International
Agreement in the Balkans,Between
England,Germany,Greece,France and Turkey large
groups of Greek local residents were forced to
move out of their territories,the Asia Minor area
as Christian refugees,to Greece. A small group
from a village called Renkiok,(the land now
identified as Turkey)was resettled in the area now
Known as Asprovalta and Stavros,Macedonia at the
Gulf of Strymonikos,the Northwest corner of the
Aegean Sea,Thessaloniki Prefecture. The location
for many years,offer to refugees in addition to
fertile land,a good segment of sea territory and
for some 30 to 40 years with their limited
resources they concentrated in agricultural and
fishing activities. Slowly though,because of the
proximity to the sea they further developed the
land to a beautiful and attractive Holiday retreat.
As time went by, Asprovalta and Stavros turn into
a crossroad between
Thessaloniki,Kavala,Serres,Bulgaria,and F.Y.R.O.M
,or if you wish,you may continue by car all the
way to Istanbul(The old city of Constandinople
under the original Byzantine name). In addition,to
our Southheast,and at a distance of approximately
50 km by car and boat you can find the famous
mountain Athos(Agio Oros)with some 33 Christian
Monasteries from the 9 to 14th Century,with
unlimited treasures,and famous master pieces in
Iconography and Original Christian
Literature.Lot's of them survived the 400 years
Ottoman Empire occupation.

Attractions:
In
the last 15 to 20
years,both,the Government,and Private resources
developed the land to a unigue,clean,and
hospitable community.During summer you can find
private apartments and hotels at nominal prices by
the day,the week,the month or the entire season.Clean
and confortable restaurants with high quality of
traditional Greek food by the sea,absolutely
magnificent places for a romantic evening. The
Government at reasonable prices has set aside a
large area for camping for those they wish to
drive their own recreational/utility vehicles. By
the way you can reach our our town by Car,Bus or
Air.The Thessaloniki International Airport(MAKEDONIA)is
only 80 km away with direct flights from
Athens,Northern Europe,or Middle East 24 hours a
day,and the roads are in the "highway
category".
