Below are some collected, eclectic quotes.
The only function of economic forecasting is to make astrology look respectable.
John Kenneth Galbraith
Only love can quiet the fear
of love, and only love can save
from diminishment the love
that we must lose to have
The only person wise about the future is the person who keeps silent.
Man was made for Joy & Woe;
and when this we rightly know
Thro' the World we safely go.
Joy & Woe are woven fine,
A Clothing for the Soul divine;
Under every grief & pine
Runs a joy with silken twine.
Fear is only as deep as the mind allows.
Treat people as if they were what they ought to be and you help them to become what they are capable of being.
Reward bitterness with care.
Life shrinks or expands in proportion to one's courage.
Love is an act of endless forgiveness.
If you talk about things you have not experienced, you are wasting your and other people's time.
Nothing in life is to be feared.
It is only to be understood.
Our greatest glory is not in never falling, but in rising every time we fall.
The power of thought is the only thing over which any human being has unquestionable control. We have the power of self determination, the ability to chose what our thoughts and actions will be. If you direct your thought and control your emotions, you will ordain your destiny. Take charge of your life. You are what you think!

You bring me so much joy

Simplicity
Clarity
Singleness
these are the attributes that give our lives power and vividness and joy as they are also the marks of great art.
We don't see things as they are, we see them as we are.
Do not seek the because --in love there is no because, no reason, no explanation, no solutions.
You can play the game now and then, to heighten passion, but profound loves are the loves which suit your true self, and they alone will satisfy you. The more you act like yourself the nearer you come to a fulfillment of your real needs.
We do not come into this world we come out of it, as leaves from a tree. As the ocean "waves" the universe "peoples". Every individual is an expression of the whole realm of nature, a unique action of the total universe.
We must be true inside, true to ourselves, before we can know a truth that is outside us. But we make ourselves true inside by manifesting the truth as we see it.
Blackroof country, no gold pavements, tired starlings
Silver horses ran down moonbeams in your dark eyes
Dawn light smiles on you leaving my contentment
I wait in this place where the sun never shines
I wait in this place where the shadows run from themselves
You said no strings could secure you at the station
Platform ticket, restless diesels, goodbye window
I walked into such a sad time at the station
As I walked out I felt my own need just beginning ... ... ...
Where fear is present, wisdom can not be.
A gentle breeze blowing in the right direction is better than a pair of strong oars.
Our lives are not determined by what happens to us but by how we react to what happens, not by what life brings to us, but by the attitude we bring to life. A positive attitude causes a chain reaction of positive thoughts, events, and outcomes. It is a catalyst, a spark that creates extraordinary results.

The worse a situation becomes the less it takes to turn it around the bigger the upside.
The focused mind can pierce through stone.
You can give your whole attention only when you care, which means that you really love.

An optimist in will.
The first rule is not to lose.
The second rule is not to forget the first rule.
Let a man who has to make his fortune in life remember this maxim: Attacking is the only secret. Dare and the world yields, or if it beats you sometimes, dare it again and you will succeed.
All in all
Each man in all men
All men in each man
All being in each being
Each being in all being
All in each

All distinctions are mind, by mind, in mind, of mind
No distinctions no mind to distinguish
Silences make the real conversations between friends.
Gratitude is the heart's memory.

If you have love you will do all things well.
And I sooth'd day after day
Till upon the ground I stray;
And I smil'd night after night,
Seeking only for delight.

And many a lovely flower & tree
Stretch'd their blossoms out to me.

Worry is a form of fear, and all forms of fear produce fatigue. A man who has learned not to feel fear will find the fatigue of daily life enormously diminished.
Tyranny functions only if taken seriously, and humor is the first defense against it.
When you are inspired by some great purpose, some extraordinary project, all your thoughts break their bonds: Your mind transcends limitations, your consciousness expands in every direction and you find yourself in a new, great and wonderful world. Dormant forces, faculties and talents become alive, and you discover yourself to be a greater person by far than you ever dreamed yourself to be.
All the worst sins are denials and rejections of love, refusals to love.
Who gave you permission to re-arrange me?
Certainly not me.
Who told you that it was all right to love me?
Certainly, certainly not me ...
Prices move in small increments during quiet times. When a crowd becomes either spooked or elated, prices begin to jump. Imagine bidding for a life preserver aboard a sinking ship -- that's how prices leap when masses of traders become emotional about a trend. An astute trader tries to enter the market during quiet times and take profits during wild times.
If you don't confront your pain then the energy of that suppressed pain when it is remembered it surfaces as hostility -- hostility is nothing but remembered pain that we did not deal with in the past.
Fear is the anticipation of pain in the future and the worry that we will be unable to deal with it because we didn't know how to deal with it in the past. Depression is the depletion of energy that occurs because of this.
Whatever we expect with confidence becomes our own self-fulfilling prophecy.
Everything that irritates us about others can lead us to an understanding of ourselves.
There can be no knowledge without emotion. We may be aware of a truth, yet until we have felt its force, it is not ours.
I have brought myself, by long meditation, to the conviction that the human being with settled purpose must accomplish it, and that nothing can resist a will which will stake even existence upon its fulfillment.

The Grand essentials of happiness are: something to do, something to love, and something to hope for.
Wisdom is avoiding thoughts that weaken you.
To understand the heart and mind of a person, look not at what he has already achieved, but at what he aspires to.
The starting point of all achievement is desire. Keep this constantly in mind. Weak desires bring weak results, just as a small amount of fire makes a small amount of heat.

Courage is the first of human qualities because it is the quality which guarantees all others.
Fear is the path to the darkside.
Fear leads to anger.
Anger leads to hate.
Hate leads to suffering.
There is no remedy for love but to love more.
If people bring so much courage to this world the world has to kill them to break them so of course it kills them. The world breaks everyone. And afterward many are strong at the broken places. But those that will not break it kills. It kills the very good and the very gentle and the very brave impartially. If you are none of these you can be sure it will kill you too but there will be no special hurry.

To acquire knowledge, one must study; but to acquire wisdom, one must observe.
Simplify!
One gift creates appreciation, many gifts create expectation.
That it fades out from kiss to kiss;
For everything that's lovely is
But a brief, dreamy, kind delight.
Patience and perseverance have a magical effect before which difficulties disappear and obstacles vanish.
Love to faults is always blind,
Always to joy inclin'd,
Lawless, wing'd, & unconfin'd,
And breaks all chains from every mind.
It is the privilege of those who fear love to murder those who do not fear it!
Love is life. All, everything that I understand, I understand only because I love. Everything is, everything exists, only because I love. Everything is united by it alone. Love is God, and to die means that I, a particle of love, shall return to the general and eternal source.

... Stocks want to hurt you, make you feel stupid -- they trade to maximize pain. I learned a long time ago to listen but avoid being talked into anything. Stocks are a voting mechanism, pure and simple. They are a collective vote of expectations of each company's future fundamentals. If investors think business will improve, that earnings estimates will rise, then the stock is going up. If investors think the end is near, a company is about to roll over, a stock will go down. It doesn't mean that those fundamentals will ever happen.
This thing [2000] feels like the finale at a July Fourth fireworks at Shea Stadium. You'd hate to leave before it's really over, but we should beat the crowds to the parking lot.
Those "families with substantial assets" had wealth, but it wasn't static. Every generation it shrank unless they chased returns. No rest for the weary. But they don't like risk. Well, too bad. I think what I learned is that wealth comes not just from taking risk but from constantly taking risks.
Money would flow uphill if it had to, to fund these high-margin intellectual enterprises.
Money sloshes to margin! The stock market sorts all this stuff out.
A stock is nothing more than the current value of a company's future profits.
Capital sloshing around, seeking its highest return, naturally funds highly profitable companies.

How to Stay Young
1. Throw out nonessential numbers. This includes age, weight and height.
2. Keep only cheerful friends. The grouches pull you down.
3. Keep learning. Learn more about the computer, crafts, gardening, whatever. Never let the brain idle.
4. Enjoy the simple things.
5. Laugh often, long and loud. Laugh until you gasp for breath.
6. The tears happen. Endure, grieve ... The only person who is with us our entire life, is ourselves. Be ALIVE while you are alive.
7. Surround yourself with what you love, whether it's family, pets, keepsakes, music, plants, hobbies, whatever. Your home is your refuge.
8. Cherish your health.
9. Tell the people you love that you love them, at every opportunity.
And always remember; Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away.
George Carlin
Any who act as if freedom's defenses are to be found in suppression and suspicion and fear confess to a doctrine that is alien to America.
Courage is not the absence of fear, but rather the judgement that something else is more important.
Inaction breeds doubt and fear. Action breeds confidence and courage.
If you want to conquer fear do not sit home and think about it. Go out and get busy.
Words are just words and without heart they have no meaning.
Never let the fear of striking out get in your way.
But we embrace that pain in order to take money ouf of the markets. In fact, pain is often the signal that a position should be taken immediately because discomfort exposes the fear of being right as much as the fear of being wrong.

What drives take overs is when the acquirer can immediately increase its earnings by the acquisition.
In takeovers you want 1) nobody has control of the company 2) great brand names, market share, 3) great distribution 4) a good fit 5) PE 12 - 15.
We do not choose to be born. We do not choose our parents. We do not choose our historical epoch, or the country of our birth, or the immediate circumstances of our upbringing. We do not, most of us, choose to die; nor do we choose the time or conditions of our death. But within all this realm of choicelessness, we do choose how we shall live: courageously or in cowardice, honorably or dishonorably, with purpose or adrift. We decide what is important and what is trivial in life. We decide that what makes us significant is either what we do or what we refuse to do. But no matter how indifferent the universe may be to our choices and decisions, these choices and decisions are ours to make. We decide. We choose. And as we decide and choose, so are our lives formed.
Unknown ... a teacher's favorite saying
The greatest discovery of my generation is that human beings can alter their lives by altering their attitudes.
In the realm of ideas, everything depends on enthusiasm; in the real world, all rests on perserverance.
And now here is my secret, a very simple secret; it is only with the heart that one can see rightly, what is essential is invisible to the eye.
The artist must be blind to distinctions between "recognized" or "unrecognized" conventions of form, deaf to the transitory teaching and demands of his particular age. He must watch only the trend of the inner need, and harken to its words alone.

That's one of the hardest lessons for a guy like me who has no interest in business but now runs a multimillion-dollar enterprise. A contract is not much of a legal document. I think it is positively astonishing.. that what we like to think our own deepest emotions were in fact initially Shakespeare's thoughts ... and there is no other writer you could make so extraordinary a statement. You and I experience fierce emotions Charlie [Rose]... those emotions which of we would like to feel are indiginous to us which emerge from our own hearts are in fact Shakespeare's thoughts.
